urgent help needed with Windows Movie Maker corrupted file
« on: June 24, 2020, 09:23:01 PM »
i asked on here which program to use for a video montage and was told to use windows movie maker. i downloaded the program from minitool and invested upwards of 18 hours on it since. i saved it a couple times throughout. now when i tried to save it i get error messages that there are corrupted files and it cannot save. when i try to reopen its hit or miss, and the last version it reverted to is hours ago. my question here is whether this can still be fully recovered or i should cut my losses and start over in another program. any help would be appreciated.

I've never had a problem. Did you export to a different file type or you're still working on movie maker?

Maybe it's referring to the underlying files that are in the movie? Did you move or change those?

Do you have a screenshot of the error message?

Congrats on the 18hrs spent! Video editing requires hours of work for minutes of content.
(Look up how long it took to make Madagascar)

Let's try to troubleshoot:

Question numbero Uno: Did you change any of the source files?

To be clear: the original clips which you want to paste together - have you renamed/moved/deleted any of them?

Question 2- where were the files stored

Were the source files on your computers hard drive or a removable flash drive or disc? What about the movie maker files?

this is a montage collected from dozens of sources from family members.... theres no way for me to know where everything is from. i contacted a technician who was bh able to retrieve my file and remove the corrupted files. tx all for your replies but simply had no chance to check back since need it for this motzei and still have 20+ hours of editing ahead....

In general best practice with things like this is to put all of your source files (video/photo/images) into one folder (it can be divided into subfolders). This way files are less likely to go missing and it's easier to back everything up / switch computers if need be.

Oh okay great!
In that case the answer to
Were the source files on your computers hard drive or a removable flash drive or disc? What about the movie maker files?
is that they are from one folder on your computer

Make sure they are on the Hard Drive inside your computer. If they are on anything USB if it falls out they get corrupted.

Also make sure not to rename or move any of the source files at all.
