1: 37% of US households have a legal gun.
2: NRA membership is around 5.5 million, so they clearly do not represent the majority of gun owners.
3: 86% of juveniles in correctional facilities are reported to have owned a gun a some time. 65% of juvenile offenders have owned 3 or more weapons. Juveniles cannot legally own guns.
4: a 2016 DOJ report found that 90% of guns taken from people arrested for committing crimes while in possession of a firearm were illegal.
And most importantly:
- The definition of a rally is a mass meeting intended to arouse group enthusiasm.
- The definition of a riot is a violent, public disorder.
For context, I've lived in a few pro-gun places. Where I live now, it's easier to get a gun license than a driver's license. I know many people who carry legally. I HATE GUNS. I have never owned one, and likely never will. I think this country has a serious gun problem. I think restrictions are in order, and they are achievable while keeping 2A firmly intact, as it should be. That said, if you say you're more scared of gun violence at a rally than at a riot, you're either lying, ignorant, or a dumba$$.
