I know that many DDFers love to plan their trips around the first-class cabins they want to use points to take to their destination, but we often do quite a bit of driving on our family trips around the US (DS12 has been to 42 states!) and keep track of our longest days in the car. But now that Covid has made air travel much more risky, we decided to try to crush our previous "records."
Until now, our longest drives in a 24-hour period were:
Overland Park, KS - Badlands NP - ~650 miles (2010)
Houston - Big Bend NP - ~560 miles (2017)
Chicago - Brooklyn (via Pittsburgh for shul & dinner) - ~860 miles (2018)
But we just got back early this morning from a Brooklyn - Overland Park, KS marathon of about 1250 miles. We left Motzei Shabbos and drove through the night with my 2 youngest (DS12 and DD6), with my wife filling in for about 2.5 hours while I slept a little, arriving Sunday afternoon. With little to no Shabbos options currently available there (Covid still exists outside the tristate area), we then left yesterday and drove (via Kohn's in STL) straight back to Brooklyn, arriving around 8:30 AM, with me doing all the driving.
Yes, I realize
@Something Fishy just crushed this with his trip to WY, but they also had multiple drivers switching off, and just as important, no kids! What's your longest driving day (supported or solo), and was it with or without kids?
And what's your longest road trip overall? In 2010, we spent 3.5 weeks doing OP - Badlands - Jackson WY - RMNP - OP, which came in at well over 3000 miles with all the detours and drives in the parks, though we now just did 2500 miles in only 1 week.
