Current Best Card for Supermarket Spending
« on: July 06, 2020, 10:55:54 AM »
I just exhausted the $6,000 of 6% cash back on my Amex Cash Preferred card. Are there any cards currently providing extra rewards for supermarket spending?

I know the Freedom and Sapphire cards just ended their supermarket bonuses. I should have moved more of my Q2 spending to those cards but it's hard to get my wife to switch spending habits so frequently. Any other cards offering bonuses now for supermarket spending?

Oh well. I don't have either of those two. I guess I'll just use my Freedom Unlimited for 1.5 points per dollar.

Yeah, maybe I'll have her take out an Cash Preferred. I get a discount on the annual fee through my work corporate card so it was a no brainer for me. But I can do it for her too.

Get a few more?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Do you by chance have a Verizon wireless account? The new verizon card has unlimited 4% grocery spend with no annual fee. Not a terrible option based on the circumstances you are describing.

Yeah, I'm doing the 3x+insurance right now. Plus I don't have Verizon anyway.

OK so if I value the 5x at 1.5 cash out value via csr then it's 3.7% unlimited cash back on grocery and gas.

And if a person has both wireless and fios the CC provides $120 annual benefit of turning $10 monthly device dollars (via Mobile+Home rewards) into real verizon credits to spend on bill.

Imo not a cc to just laugh at. It's a good long term option, especially for ppl that only like to hold a few CCs.

Those are good. But this quarter it doesn't hit a ton of my cards. I have the Reserve but don't really want to use instacart. Items look to be about 10% more expensive than in the store when I looked at my local shoprite and I've long since gotten my 60$ DoorDash credit for 2020.

I think my best bet is to get another Cash Preferred for my wife. I think she'll still be under 5/24 when she becomes eligible for the Sapphire family of cards again. I actually just checked and I believe she's also eligible for the Marriott consumer card (we both have the Marriott business cards) since it's now been over 24 months since she got the business card bonus. I should probably wait for an enhanced signup bonus first though.

I applied for my wife and before they even did the credit pull they said that she won’t be able to get the  signup bonus and intro APR. it’s weird because she hasn’t opened a lot of cards in the last few years. I think only one primary new card in the last 2 years. Have others seen this before?
