Good deal on a wifi extender if you need one. I paid $32 for the same one on Amazon a couple months ago. It works great.

Also this wifi antenna has the correct chip set for hacking a wep wifi code

Will it work (well) with a shoddy DSL modem/wifi-router-combo that Verizon provided for free?

Hmmmph, I bought a b-grade router on BF (It was $12.99 on Newegg at the time I purchased it), should I buy this too...

I honestly dont know anything about the TP-Link router. My experience and my friends experience with the Alfa Wi Fi Extender has been super positive. I have used it in a suburban setting, no tall buildings or anything.

If its the westell 7501 that you are referring to - I have used it for a while... It was a really decent router... Just not the quickest

I'm trying to improve wireless reception for someone sitting in the basement directly (1 floor) below the router. He's currently getting only 3 bars and an inferior connection.

I my opinion the Alfa Wi Fi Extender would work great! Unless you got lead sheets between the first floor and basement.

The house is probably 90+ years old, so anything is possible. I wish the router was here so I could test it out before this one sells out.

Tough one! You can always try to sell it on ebay and make your money back if its worth the hassle. Although it doesn't seem to be a very popular item on ebay at the moment.

If it's good then yes, from the reviews you should be ok, but YMMV (especially with the b-class brand).

It officially has a 2-year warranty.

Is he using a laptop or pc? If he's using a laptop its a little of a pain using this alfa antenna

I would suggest buy a router that could be flashed to dd-wrt and set it up as a repeater... I have done that a handfull of times, and the router with using the dd-wrt will have good reception to the router above
