Because those who go want to keep it the way it is...quiet and out of the way
So true. There's just something charming about those empty backcountry roads.  The short slow nature of this thread sums it up nicely.

Would love to hear more about Harper's Ferry. Anyone been? A/t interesting to do there?
Some interesting historical hikes, a very long biking trail, the first billboard in the US, rafting (good experience with River Riders)

It's on the border of VA, WV and MD so keep that in mind when researching the area.

Yes I did.  I would love to write up a whole trip report when I have time but for now: It was great. Really loved it. we stayed on Snowshoe Mountain.  It is very very quiet there during the summer.  You need to do a lot of driving for everything because it is very remote but it was fun drives on windy roads up and down mountains and valleys. There are tons of outdoor stuff to do like hiking, biking, waterfalls, kayaking etc... We were there for 10 days and spent a total of $68 on activities.

Was absolutely beautiful when I was there. Much cooler than NY especially on the mountains. Nights and mornings were really great with crisp fresher air. People who get cold easier would probably need a sweatshirt. Mid day especially Off the mountain was hot but not as humid
