I can understand that but that wasn't the reason for denial.
That's a standard reason for denial.

Having too much available credit is viewed as -- and likely is -- risky to creditors.
Solution:
Call reconsideration and request to move credit from your existing freedom to the new card.

Solution:
Moving credit around does not change the amount of credit available. It is a BS reason.
Even if the reason was to much credit with Chase moving credit around still doesn't solve anything unless the reason was BS to begin with.
You see a pattern here?  :)
Generic reason that doesn't mean much.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I've had chase tell me they can't approve me for more credit but they would b happy to move over some credit to open the card

You're missing the forest for the trees.  Context is important: OP is applying for a NEW cc and is being told it cannot be approved due to current available credit.

The reason being given by Chase is NOT "we don't want to open this card because you have too much available credit."  The reason being given is "we don't want to open this card because, given your currently available credit, we don't want to extend you more."

Many on here -- me included -- have circumvented that issue by convincing the recon rep that the applicant does not need nor want additional credit and that the card can be opened using established and existing credit already extended to open the card.

No I am not missing anything but I appreciate you explaining how credit works to me. Some individuals with no Chase credit cards will get that same reason. You assume that because one can get approved on recon that the reason given was valid.

One of the biggest bogus reasons given is to many inquires. Creditboards explains these generic reasons in depth if any one cares.

We can go back and forth all day, but it won't change the fact that this denial reason can often be overcome by reallocation of credit.

That some individuals without chase cards get this denial reason also changes nothing.

No need for back and forth but it can also be overcome without reallocation of credit.

Good question, I did try HUCA... I called three different people and they all gave me the same robotic response. I requested to shift credit from my Freedom card and they wanted nothing to do with it. Honestly, the only thing that I was able to think of is that Chase is being more careful these days due to COVID 19. I know that I am not a credit risk and the denial is still bologna in my opinion. That said, I will be a lot more weary in my dealing with Chase in the future because AMEX obvious didn't see this as an issue. They approved me on the spot for a generous line. The most ridiculous part of my conversion with one Chase rep was when they told me they would rather approve someone with a much lower credit score and less available credit. Another thought that came to mind is that the banks make more money from people who carry balances and pay heavy APR amounts. Chase could be looking for these types of candidates. Just food for thought...

Bingo!!!
Carry a balance with your line maxed out and expect to get: Congratulations!!! For being such a valued customer we increased your CL. Nothing you need to do except charge more so we get more interest.  :)

Not sure why you think that. I am being as transparent as it gets. But you are entitled to your opinion.

Who’s they? Chase?
Do the randomly shootout denials from the system?
If it’s the rep’s why wouldn’t huca work?

HUCA simply didn't work on this. I know some of you don't believe me. But that is just how it all transpired.
