Quick Alaska Trip Report
« on: July 12, 2020, 11:36:24 AM »
Quick Trip Report: (If I have time I'll expand but based on my past history of giving up in middle, I figured it would be better to just post a quickie first).

Sunday - Land at 4PM. Pick up car and drive seward highway - overnight at Summit Lake Lodge ($410 total for 2 nights - great find - lodge is a gem in my opinion).

Monday - Exit Glacier hike (4 mile rt) Major marine 6 hour tour (~$130pp - 30% discount code) - overnight at Summit Lake Lodge.

Tuesday - Bear Viewing and salmon fishing tour with Talon Air ($450pp plus $25 fishing license pp plus $20 tip pp). Overnight in Anchorage at Residence Inn (Marriott Cert)

Wednesday - Glacier walk at Matanuska ($100pp + $15 tip pp), 1.1 mile hike up Lionshead for a gorgeous view of the whole glacier all the way back (5 miles to the right out of the glacier walk. Park at the gate and call AT&T for permission. Ask the locals for exact info). Overnight flight home.

Seward Highway View

Summit Lodge View (cloudy:)

Aialik Glacier - Major Marine Tour

Bear Viewing - Talon Air

Grilling the one salmon we caught - the bears (10 of them!!!) chased away all the others:)

Thanks so much! Sounds like a great itinerary!
Would you care to post the links of the attractions?
Also, was this trip recent (during COVID)?

Looks like a really red salmon! No coloring!
Always praying for delayed baggage.

It's sockeye - that's all there is at this time - at least according to our guide. Not as good as the salmon you buy at the local store but definitely an experience.

Exit Glacier - free

Major Marine - https://majormarine.com/valpak/ - we did the 6 hour tour. I personally suspect I would have enjoyed the glacier tours from Whittier, but I know many disagree.

Talon - https://www.talonair.com/trips-rates - we did the bearviewing AND salmon fishing. As you can see many specifics depend on the dates. Add $25pp for fishing license and 15% for tips.

Matanuska - https://matanuskaglacieradventures.us/ - they have longer tours call them up for details.

Yes we went during covid - you need to take a test withing 72 hours (or within 5 days). Some prices are much cheaper now and it's emptier so it's a great time to go.

Semms like the Talon Air Bearviewing and salmon fishing is $550 Per person + Tax, is there any way to get a better deal?

Was the bear viewing worth it? Did you see them fishing?
