Amex Reward Points when Card is cancelled.

Suppose someone applies Amex Platinum card and cancels it within 6 weeks to get annual fee refund. If this card is his/her only charge card, then chance is the points are not available to use yet, so what will happen to the points when the card is cancelled?  In my experience, if you don't have Amex Reward account before, it will take a while for earned points to be available to use.

If you cancel before the points post you probably won't get them. If you cancel and MR account with points and you don't have another MR-earning card, you forfeit the points.

Though there has been some chatter on here about being able to transfer them to another MR account (like a spouse) even after closed.

It's a longshot, but you can try and see if they'll do it for you as an exception, PUTPAC.

From my experience it's very smoothly. it's the official policy, just call and ask if you can transfer, they'll tell you: "only if you decide to cancel, and you transfer to a spouse".
