This whole breakout after 6 months of lockdown reinforces the theory that all lockdowns accomplish is kicking the can down the road.

If you're old enough to remember '15 days to slow the spread' that's all it was meant to accomplish.
You were locked down for 6 months? Wow!

Avoiding large gatherings =/= locked down.

I admit schools is tricky, as it's clear that they are nearly impossible to keep open anywhere without spikes in cases, but if schools are closed, there's a de facto lock down.

While you have a very good point, it's also worth mentioning that this part of the road has better medical care.
There needs to be some kind of balance...

My office in Manhattan is still shut down if that counts.

My point is that if we'd have kept schools and weddings shut down for another year, it's very likely that there will be an uptick then. Maybe if we shut those down for 5 years not, but is it reasonable?

I think it's clear that this spread was mostly because of hefkeris by weddings. So far, outbreaks in schools are fairly limited, though as time goes on, the number of outbreaks will increase as the infections spread.

Post I replied to suggested that we are our own worst enemy for restarting weddings. If smart/safe means that everyone needs to wear a mask over their nose for 5 hours and dance with jump ropes, I don't think society wants to put up with that for 5 years.

Time-wise, the uptick coincides with camp ending and then bumps a little higher when schools open. Obviously, correlation does not necessarily imply causation.

Chart shows the 7 day average for Lakewood, based on OCHD.
It takes time for the transmission to double/triple etc. Weddings restarted after Tisha ba'av (August 1) you had about 2 weeks of weddings before the uptick - I'm just not convinced it's Schools

Is there a breakout anywhere else in NY/NJ besides for the Jewish communities?
Visibly Jewish

Or it's seasonal, and the frum world is ahead of the curve (again) because of our lifestyle, including weddings, shuls, schools, and local stores.
This (unfortunately) might be it. Maybe we're just seeing the beginnings of the onset of flu season and with it a second wave of covid. Hope I'm wrong.
If you don't care why would you comment?

No, but there will be. And Lakewood will be blamed.

The answer always has been yes and no obviously if you don't vaccinate. Then that kind of answer doesn't appeal to you.

However better understanding of how the virus spreads etc means that preventive action can be taken.

Likewise, better treatment and care.

The summer was a great opportunity to let the virus actually die out, instead, you brought it back.

It's preposterous to suggest there was any way let the virus actually die. The cat is out of the bag and it's not going back in until there is herd immunity one way of another.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Nobody shut down any weddings.
Before Pesach, weddings were essentially shut down.

Umm. So your blaming the Jews for the infections all over the country?

Nobody shut down any weddings.
Tell that to the people who had the police show up at their backyard wedding.
