Maybe, but it’s inexcusable that that’s the case. It’s dead wrong to even consider attending Shul while sick with a highly infectious potentially deadly virus. The fact that there was a harsh lockdown changes nothing about that equation.

I would be dan tkaf zchus that the Rov is ignorant of the facts and therefore should not be considered regarding this topic. Without being dan lkaf zchus like this I would consider him to be likely upgefregt.

I texted one of the shul gabbaim, he told me the Rov made the decision after speaking to a local dr.
