Other family members tested negative on the PCR with recently Confirmed antibodies. I tested at least a couple days after significant symptom onset and just came back negative. Recently confirmed antibodies as well. Feel pretty lousy but no fever or cough. I’m going to say the overwhelming odds are that this is not a covid reinfection.
You are almost certainly correct and indeed the tests you took came back negative. I assume most people with recently confirmed antibodies are not testing for COVID unless the symptoms are really COVID specific (smell, taste, fever, cough, short of breath).

Yes. Depending on the day since infection/exposure, the false negative rate can be up to 50%. My mother tested negative a day before her positive, a day or two after symptom onset. Even at the period with the highest level of viral shed the false positive rate is small but significant. The tests being administered are 99.5% specific to COVID-19. IINM the only viruses they can detect are coronaviruses.

So when is the most accurate time to test?

So when is the most accurate time to test?
I believe there was a chart posted earlier, perhaps on this thread.

Here’s what I found from the NIH:

Quote
RT-PCR false negatives are related to the viral load and virus exposure time. A study has reported this issue in a literature review and pooled analysis,5 showing that the probability of a false negative RT-PCR test on day 1 after infection is 100% and it decreased respectively to 67% on day 4, 20 % on day 8, and increased again to 66% on day 21 after infection. In other words, the risk of false negative will be highest for RT-PCR when the test was used too early. In this situation, researchers suggest consecutive testing may be needed to improve adequate performance of the test.5 A study from John Hopkins University reported that the incubation time for COVID-19 is about a week from exposure.11 According to the finding of this study, time of sampling is a major factor that can reduce false negative ratio. We cannot rule out infection according to a negative test when a patient has symptom. In such cases, repeating the test increases our confidence.

BH everyone is ok, although my mother is still very fatigued, has a chronic headache, and is wheezing and feels winded when she exerts herself at all (such as walking up or down steps).

My father is down to just a lingering cough BH.

For those asking how/why schools seem to be making a school vs wedding trade off (schools which own wedding halls): we now have a sefer torah campaign* running for a school which is trying to (with no sense of irony and shame) market the death of its popular principal due to corona (he was extremely high risk, yet it was the first school to reopen). With slogans such as "Rabbi W. pushed himself to the max - you do the same!"

*a sefer torah campaign with a $600,000 goal isn't a campaign just for a sefer torah. It's a regular fundraising campaign for the school.

Large Yeshivos typically only accept Sefer Torah dedications/Hachnas Sefer Torah from much larger donors.

Yup it's a fundraising gimmick.

Bit harsh to call it exploiting someone’s death though

Coming from same guy that blamed Hatzolah for all weddings and accused Lakewood establishment of a massive coverup.

I stand by those assessments.

First one is opinion. Second is fact.

I’m just explaining why people shouldn’t be so surprised when you go and accuse a moised of exploiting someone’s death.

Got it. Fair enough.

Though I used the wrong adjective. Exploiting is too harsh - it's more of a lack of any sense of irony. See my edit.

1) Unfortunately the principal was sick for a few years. Corona had nothing to do with his passing.

2) Almost every Sefer Torah campaign is a fundraising campaign.

Its much less burdensome than making a dinner, and the overhead is much less. You won't get your fancy meal with a celebrity singer, and violins playing in the background, but the mosod makes out better.
