1) Unfortunately the principal was sick for a few years. Corona had nothing to do with his passing.

2) Almost every Sefer Torah campaign is a fundraising campaign.

Its much less burdensome than making a dinner, and the overhead is much less. You won't get your fancy meal with a celebrity singer, and violins playing in the background, but the mosod makes out better.
1) He was working in school until he caught covid.

2) 100%, it's a great campaign gimmick. I was just preemptively mentioning that so people don't think that this was a regular sefer torah that was being written and had nothing to do with a fundraising campaign for his former employer.

1) Perhaps I'm wrong about being in school full time, but he attended many of the school functions (such as the communal bar mitzvah that he danced by). He caught covid and was unable to eat and passed away - this is according to my friend who's a rebbe there. I'm sure the cancer is what killed him, but to say that covid had nothing to do with it....Is that incorrect?

The only ones who have a sefer torah campaign for the sefer itself are newer shuls.

Just because he was sick from before doesn't mean that it had "nothing" to do with his passing. Quite the contrary, those sick before were the ones most likely to be hit hardest.

He did not die exclusively of COVID but it is pretty clear that COVID had a lot to do with it.

Is this also exploiting the death of a coronavirus victim?

Big difference between a victim of the first wave and one of the second wave for this.
Also, exploiting was the wrong word for me to use. I just find the marketing around it distasteful. The fact that SA was *the* trailblazer essentially reopening schools in Lakewood after the first wave and that their extremely high risk principal died from covid, is just too ironic (probably wrong word too) for me for them to use him as a marketing tool.
Additionally, didn't R' CD Keller own Telshe Chicago as a partner?

Can we get the @Euclid fundraising guidelines?
It’s seems very random.
1)Must be part owner
2)can’t use a Sefer Torah

The gist that I'm getting is it's ok to fundraise by using people who have passed away, even if it was tragic, but you probably shouldn't do it when it was (partially) due to your institution's (perceived) recklessness.

Regardless, if R Weiss would want them to do this I call it a worthy cause and even without knowing him I’m reasonably sure he would. In my book that is the end of the story. This is a NON issue (I won’t comment on how the Mossad operated during covid)

I’d sooner call out the Lakewood fundraising campaigns we see each summer that have hookah bars, cigar rolling, mixologists, and raucous volleyball tournaments that are marketed to a select crowd and never known to the public at large because it would be seen as such poor taste and negative publicity for the organization. This is as kosher as it gets. *I don’t send to any of SCK mosdos or have anything to do with him.

You're probably right about how he would feel about it (his family is fully on board). It just sits uncomfortably with me (an internet nobody).

We just don't have a DDF board for that ;)

I'm very confident that his family, who are fully supporting this fundraising initiative, would be upset at the conversation and insinuations here

Other family members tested negative on the PCR with recently Confirmed antibodies. I tested at least a couple days after significant symptom onset and just came back negative. Recently confirmed antibodies as well. Feel pretty lousy but no fever or cough. I’m going to say the overwhelming odds are that this is not a covid reinfection.
Ditto here. Negative rapid and PCR. Two days of flu like symptoms and no antibodies.

No. There was no fever, and symptoms were much improved, except for congestion, by third day.

I’d go for one more PCR but it probably not COVID. Negative on a rapid is worthless though.

Worst sore throat probably in a decade. Out for the count for a few days. Just improving now. I wonder if it’s the flu hitting with a vengeance this year.

My daughter had the same last week. Not strep, not consistent with flu, couldn't be covid
