I just want to interject with my anecdotal input. My father had fever last week, took two covid tests at the beginning of the week, one rapid and one non-rapid but same day. Both negative. Fever was persistent, so he retested Friday. Covid positive.

Obviously he could be in the statistical minority, or his fever was unrelated (highly unlikely), but the one story I know of someone who took the test gave a false negative IMO. (Yes, he seems to be fine, thanks for asking.)

They have 10 minute 99.5%+ accurate PCR tests? When did that happen?

Couldn't tell you, all I know is that they say it's PCR and the nurse who administered it was extolling how highly accurate it is. Also, Dr. Shanik also has rapid tests which they say are PCR and there too got results in less than ten minutes (in both case it was for positive tests, not sure if that makes a difference).

IINM, Dr. Shanik's office is using the Abbott ID NOW system.

They aren’t false, Covid doesn’t actually leave for many months, just less symptoms.

Is that true for everyone who’s infected? If people are testing negative on a properly administered/processed 50-cycle PCR then in what way do they have COVID?

I would actually say COVID passes pretty quickly for most patients and those who have lingering symptoms (including those R”L stuck on vents) are suffering from COVID-caused-/related complications, e.g. cytokine storms or other damage caused by the COVID infection.

There is a theory that the virus sometimes lives on in the brain or etc without being present in the respiratory system, so no nose swab test will pick it up because it simply isn't present in the nose anymore.

I'm guessing that's why there's talk of anal swabs, sometimes it is in the body but not not in the nose.

Probably true, although we don't really know that. The bigger question is how big is the minority and how bad is the lingering  damage there.
