Wondering why this thread is so quiet. From what I hear and see around town, Covid cases are exploding, even in previously infected/vaxxed groups (along with flu cases).

I know dozens of people with COVID including several neighbors. How do I know? Some of them told people in shul..

Literally got a text from a friend as I was typing this that his mother just tested positive for both flu and COVID (last had COVID in March 2020).

Because most people realize at this point that COVID is something thats going to be around for awhile. We are not going to panic every time numbers start rising. Especially when no one is getting seriously Ill. Vaccines are readily available for whatever it's worth.

 I maintained a spreadsheet of Lakewood case numbers for the first two waves but now I don't see and purpose. Even the most careful people that I know are not changing their behavior in any significant way.

I know some seriously ill in CLE. Are you sure that there are no serious cases in Lakewood?

I didn't do a survey of Drs and hospitals, but i didn't hear of anything. It's also been reported that the hospitalization rate is much lower with omicron, and anyone who wants to can get vaccinated.

Omicron's hospitalization rate is lower, but transmission is higher.

Transmit to 100 people, with 10% hospitalization   => 10 hospitalized
Transmit to 10,000 people, with 1% hospitalization => 100 hospitalized

Just making up numbers, but the point is that a low hospitalization rate could still overwhelm hospitals if the transmission rate is much higher.

When you have evidence that we're heading toward that and lakewood is responsible for it we can reevaluate. Until then life continues as normal.

Lots of evidence that omicron is transmitted at a higher rate than earlier variants.

If this were correct, then hospitalization rate should be skyrocketing in places where there is widespread Omicron spread. We are not seeing that anywhere. Until that happens there is no reason to pretend that we are in March 2019. Here in Lakewood, fifty percent of our population is under 18 and was never at any risk of death or serious illness. Another big chunk is 18 - 40, so also extremely low risk. We have vaccines and therapeutics readily available. I'm far from being a covid denier. I was from the last outdoor daveners in my area. But at some point, we have to go on with life.

All these goyim standing in looong lines at all frum urgent care centers in Brooklyn to get tested for Omicron, little do they know they're coming to fetch the flu in the worlds top hotspots

Depends where you are I suppose. Doctors in CLE tell me they're just about at capacity. Nonessential procedures are all cancelled though EOY.
