I was not mikabel that R' Kotler made the statement attributed to him on the facebook post. It has nothing to do with the yeshiva being packed with infected people. I just can't believe that a Gadol said that wearing a mask in the Beis Medrash is like using an umbrella on the teiva, especially when R' Chaim Kanievsky has COVID and signed off on a letter that encourages others to wear masks.

I’m not sure how many people really consider him a gadol. Not surprising that he doesn’t care about his disciples more than he cared about his wife
This is inexcusable bizuy talmud chachom. (Not to mention uninformed)

In my neighborhood Shul there were to hakafos, in the main Shul and in the simcha hall. They were billed as being shorter and with some restrictions in both, with the downstairs one being masked and socially distant. In the end, to no ones surprise, essentially all the restrictions upstairs were gone (maybe a little at night, there were take not women at night, but by day totally normal)m they were regular length, regular dancing, regular drinking etc. The downstairs one (which if you've seen my posts here you can guess that is the one I joined ;-)) was significantly shorter (approx. 5-6 min. per hakafa) and was masked and socially distant, but was a bit sparsely attended. Nonetheless, it was very nice, and while I understand other people may feel differently, I truly feel that this was the way Hashem wanted the hakafos to look this year. The main thing is a gezinten winter to all!!
And then there was:

With full hookah bar.

Lol. The former.

He's been saying this type of rhetoric for months.
Isn't he on the Moetzes? How is that consistent with the pre yomtov letter?
If you don't care why would you comment?

I think what he may have meant was

"if you come into the BMG beis medrash with hundreds of other people in close proximaty, with a significant number of them likely carrying the virus, and expect your mask to protect you from COVID, you are being foolish".

. . . I.e. that is about as effective as an umbrella during the mabul.

p.s. I too find the insult/comment above to be totally unacceptable.

Hard to see that angle. Implying that BMG is the mabul, and the only way to stay safe is to stay away? While the above quote is just hearsay and a kinda meaningless debate for me, it’s easier to comprehend an analogy to a teva, BMG is a teva, Hashem doesn’t need your extra effort to stay safe when you’re in His teva.

Then I still can't believe it. If someone of R Chaim Kanievsky's stature has it now (not to mention or belittle all the Kedoshim who died from it), I cannot believe that a Gadol would say that.
i know it feels very warm and fuzzy to call anyone who died a kadosh, but for youre information, a kadosh is someone who died al kidush hashem

Your point is well taken, I did not mean people who died Al-Kiddush Hashem. Maybe it would have been better to say Tehorim as my intention was to refer to other people who were great people.

The Lakewood that I was born in, grew up in and chose to raise my family in is officially dead. Like many of the other Corona deaths, we can argue if the real cause of death was COVID-19, if COVID-19 was just a contributing factor or if it was a death due to preexisting illness with COVID-19 but regardless, it is dead. Some may argue that it died a long time ago and I just never get the memo. Torah based leadership, formerly a hallmark of Lakewood (even if I may not have agreed with every letter) has been replaced by every shmoiger having a da'ah, competing vaadim issuing senseless proclamations without any explanations, based on whatever asken has the ear of said vaad. Instructions that fly in the face of sechel and the basic hashkafas hachayim that yidden understood for millennia.
