about 10 minutes. Also with Chai care although they tell you 1-3 business days, I got the results the following evening after I took the tests.

I just want to interject with my anecdotal input. My father had fever last week, took two covid tests at the beginning of the week, one rapid and one non-rapid but same day. Both negative. Fever was persistent, so he retested Friday. Covid positive.

Obviously he could be in the statistical minority, or his fever was unrelated (highly unlikely), but the one story I know of someone who took the test gave a false negative IMO. (Yes, he seems to be fine, thanks for asking.)

What do you mean by “non-rapid”? PCR? Even PCR tests return a fair amount of false negatives, but lower than antigen tests.

I'm honestly not sure. The way it was described to me, it was a "laboratory test", but the practitioner (who did a home visit) had "access" to a lab and was therefore able to get same-day results.

Sounds like a PCR test. As has been stated repeatedly on this thread, false negatives are common (far more for antigen “rapid” test than “overnight” PCR tests) but false positives are very rare to borderline impossible (for PCR tests. For antigen tests they are infrequent but not exactly rare).

I think (hope?) that at this point most people are aware that false positives isn’t really a thing.

They aren’t false, Covid doesn’t actually leave for many months, just less symptoms.

Yup nCov2 particles were in your body, they were just neutralized enough not to be contagious or cause major symptoms. Sometimes they reactivate and people get ill again.

Weak enough that they aren’t capable of replicating enough to infect somebody else, not necessarily completely dead. There are theories / reports the virus particles live in other parts of the body so aren’t expelled from the respiratory system

Just because this is an absolute statement, how do you *know* there is no way you were contagious?

You can be contagious and not infect all (or any) of your contacts.

So for somebody living in the same household and exposed daily, it would be 10 days after the last time the Covid carrier was considered contagious (14/10 days etc)?

Yup. Not fun, but that's what you gotta do. Can be longer if different family members get it during those time periods....

Or they can completely separate rooms/floors in the house (yes, I understand that it can be very hard for some households).

Also another benefit of testing, if an asymptomatic family member tests positive they can start the 10/14 day isolation count as opposed to starting quarantine only after 10-14 days from the last exposure.
