Point Mugu State Park and Tierra Sur (Los Angeles)
« on: July 19, 2020, 05:41:36 PM »
We rented a Honda Odyssey vía ZipCar, $100 for 24 hours. Picked it up from a lot at UCLA.  We drove from Brentwood to Point Mugu SP this morning.  Drive up PCH was about an hour at 8:30am.

Did a 5.5-mile hike — weather was perfect, views of the Pacific and the Santa Monica range glorious.   About 2 hours. Porta potties at the parking lot.  $10 parking all day. Lot half full.  Trail not too crowded.   About 1/3 people wearing masks.

Drive to Tierra Sur about 20 minutes.   Driving up, the place does not impress — like in the middle of an industrial park.  But once inside, it’s beautiful. Sat outdoors — fully covered and enclosed but great ventilation.  Lots of attention to COVID prevention. Lunch/bar menu.

Food did not disappoint.
Sourdough Bread and garlic olive oil.
Casa salad 8.5/10
Pickled veggies 8/10
Sweet potatoes fries 9/10
Fries 9/10
Fish tacos 9/10
Pizza with veal sausage 10/10
Fried chicken sandwich 8/10
Pastrami burger 10/10. Huge piece of pastrami.

Regular burger with lamb bacon  8/10
Churros 9/10. Served with chocolate sauce that had a nice liquor flavor, berry sauce, and rice pudding sauce.
Lemon-peach tart 10/10. Perfect blend of sweet and tart.
Flourless chocolate cake with PB ice cream. 9/10. Cake is more like chocolate fudge.  The ice cream was 10/10.
Glass of Momentus Lineage sparkling white $14, 8.5/10
Glass of Lineage Choreograph, 9.5/10

Total bill (20% tip included)= $259.

Pareve cheese was not prominent — just enough to get a little gooey texture, which was an enhancement.  The focal point of the pizza was the veal sausage.  My DW said, “Who ever heard of having meat on pizza?” We all laughed.

Nice mini TR and good points about TS being open. Have you checked out any of the meriad of hikes in the Santa Monica mountains that are way closer? Even Will Rogers SP has lots, and it's practically in Brentwood.

Thanks. We hiked Temescal Canyon about a month ago. Beautiful and convenient, but very crowded, even early (9am).

Thanks.  Unfortunately, it’s closed for now, due to COVID-19.

There are lots more. The farther away from LA the emptier. Solstice Canyon, Escondido falls, Los Leones and Topanga canyon's Musch Trail are some of my favorites.
