How to cut 40% off your Cablevision bill
« on: November 29, 2011, 03:27:50 PM »
This likely only works if you have the Triple Play package, but if you're an existing CV customer for any of their services its worth a shot.

My bill with CV was $157.65/month for their basic cable TV package (including DVR on 2 TVs), basic internet, and home phone. I called DirecTV and Verizon and scheduled them to come install their services for 2 weeks down the road. I then called CV and asked them to cancel my service. When I told them I was cancelling due to switching services, they transferred me to the retention department. The retention rep tried every trick in the book to convince me to stay, including inventing blatantly false stories about DTV service going down weekly for her grandma, Verizon internet going down often for her brother etc.

Ultimately she ended up giving me a better cable package, the fastest internet they have (I've gotten 54mbps plugged in and 28mbps on wifi), and an upgraded calling plan for the grand total of $88.85/month for the next 12 months.

All I had to do was forward her my confirmation emails from DTV and Verizon. I then called DTV and Verizon and cancelled my appointments with them. Took a total of approximately 1 hour for the entire job. I'm going to save over $800 over the course of the year, so I'd definitely recommend trying.

I think you could do better. They have a promo for $69 a month for all three. The booster, which i'm not sure you have adds a little more-$10 or so. Unless the DVR's up the price?

$69 promo is only if you're switching from satellite. It only includes basic cable - I have the Gold package (normally $30 more). DVR is another $11, while my 2nd TV would add $12 ($7 for the tv, $5 for their "additional outlet fee"). I also have their fastest internet with boost plus, which would add another $30. Even if my base price was the $69 promo, all my add-ons would bring it up to $152.

Didn't they wonder why you are installing 2 different providers?

I'm an existing customer (internet only) and I got the letter today as well. $69 for triple play with DVR, IIRC.

DirecTV is for TV. Verizon is for internet.

Its been months since I've gotten one of those mailers. A friend of mine churned that 4 times. He got over $1000 worth of prizes for upgrading.

I actually see that they still have the offer for the double play for $60 a month but only for a business plan. Any reason I can't just say my basement is a business? I can even show them my IB  :P

1. can you apply the double play to an existing account?

2. CV was down in my neighborhood yesterday,  can I get any compensation?

Every time I have any issues I call to complain. I always ask for free on demand or something. Always get shot down but they usually give me credit for that 1 day. Of course, YMMV.
