By the number. If anyone has the bright idea to drain Amex Prepaid debit cards this way, think again. These dumb a**es (Venmo) consider it a CC.

Bank Identification Number, first 6 digits of a card that identify's the card issuer with various other info about the type of card it is on a network. At Universal card we used to have a BIN book that showed all bins from Visa/MC in the world. All issuers. It was about 5 inches thick for each one. That was in 1994.

Adding debit cards to exploit Venmo for rewards is very much OT but that is something most would talk about via PM if they want it to last.
