The trick they did was they told me that after i become Israeli they'll tell me ALL the GREAT benefits that i will get. Yipee!

After getting my Teudat Zahut, i sit down with the guy. "So, how many years your here in Israel". "12". "Oh. Ok. You don't really get any benefits at all. And one more thing; the government will try to get you to pay 10's of thousands of Shekel for back pay for insurance. Try to get out of it".

I don't think they even gave me a hat.
I did my own homework and asked them the questions beforehand. They were trying to make things better then it is, but I was expecting that.
I felt like NBN made ot easier for me, by helping out with the paperwork and making sure that I don't have a 'Misrad Hapnim' experience.

Of course you do, Leitzman is not a sub accent, he is an American speaking in Hebrew :D :D
It's not an American accent though it's yiddish and it's a very hasidishe way of speaking hebrew.

Yoish.
I had an entirely pleasant experience with NBN, though, and never at any point was there a hava aminah that I would be getting much benefit, though I did participate in some mivtzah that basically paid my aliyah expenses - I was here 12 years and got no other benefits. Although there was no back-charge for Bituach Leumi (unlike my sister-in-law who did have to pay a decent amount of money).

What his accent is actually is, is a little complicated. Its a combination of old Polish Yiddish and old American english.
I don't find that it sounds anything like a modern Israeli or american Chasiddish accent.
(I think it sounds close to some of the early israeli political figures who had a similar language background)

I had the opposite. I went with NBN for the same reason but they "lost" my papers and said they couldn't processes it. I threatened them that i would skip them and go through the misrad hapnim and they quickly "found" the "lost" papers...

I also found that NBN demanded lots of paperwork. I just went to Misrad Hapnim and did it myself.

MhP needed less paperwork than the NBN?

Didn't need to show any criminal background check. Can't remember what else.

I don't know that there's another recent thread dealing directly with the process of making Aliya, and this is what I found when searching, so I'll go for it here.

Anyone have recommendations for more up and coming mixed anglo communities in Israel? Our family is considering Aliyah but can't afford the more popular places like RBS or Modiin. We also don't want something TOO American, but would like something that has a solid mixture of Israeli and Anglo families. Ideally something on the train/bus line that can allow for transportation to major hubs. Left of yeshivish, right of MO, though I feel like many MO people I know are more halachically observant than myself, and we tend to lean towards the MO crowd.

And with regards to resources for researching places, it seems like most things are on Facebook, which I deleted several years ago. Is there a way to get more up to date info about communities without having to create a FB account?

I appreciate any insights!
I'm looking for a very similar neighborhood. Although there isnt aliyah plans in my immediate future, I would like to purchase something now and rent it out until I'm ready to move. But haskaifically this sounds like the type of neighborhood I'm looking for

If we have similar views, maybe we can buy in the same location

I'm hearing good things about Carmei Gat. Charish Is a bit too far off the beaten path, and it seems like there's a lot of division if Google is to be believed.

Is Mishkafayim basically the same as being in RBS? Or is there a bigger mix of Israelis with the Anglos?

I appreciate many of the other insights and resources posted above, thank you!

On second look, it would seem that the places that you are to the right of places that you are looking at...
I'm looking for a very similar neighborhood. Although there isnt aliyah plans in my immediate future, I would like to purchase something now and rent it out until I'm ready to move. But haskaifically this sounds like the type of neighborhood I'm looking for
There are tax differences between foreigners and olim that may make be worthwhile for you to check out (unless you are specifically looking to invest now).
Also, the particular part of the life cycle when you move can play a role in choosing a neighborhood. Many "up and coming" communities can be less appropriate for people retiring to IL. For example: Social and Medical services focused on the young...

Also I havent heard that the division in Charish is any worse than that in RBS...

I just spent 2.5 weeks in Israel, volunteering in a rehab hospital during the week and spending Shabbos in a different community each shabbos (3 total) to check out different flavors. I was in Yad Binyamin, Teaneck RBS, and Rechovot. While I had a great experience each shabbos and met amazing people in each community, I really enjoyed Rechovot the most. It was nice to see that you can have charedi, daati leumi, and chiloni people all living in one building. Everyone seems to co-exist nicely. The anglo shuls were great and I had so many people come over to me (an obvious visitor, I guess) to say good shabbos and and introduce themselves and wish me luck on my journey. And it also seems to be much more affordable than some other communities.
