Rumor touch is a bad choice, I had it for a short while and would totally not recommend it.

Did you try changing the color theme?

yup. doesn't affect incoming name color. that and the fact that it uses its own font on many websites (like NYT) are my biggesr gripes so far, which isn't bad. and no autocorrect w the tiny keyboard. on the other hand I love that I am sitting on a beach in brifht sunlight and I can see the screen perfectly even w sunglasses on. nice phone.
 
I realize this is a relatively ancient phone but does  anyone have any thoughts on whether getting opera mini is worth it?

If you plan on selling the un activated smartphone just make sure to call sprint and have them free up the esn number. Even though it's not activated on your account its still assigned to it.

I am currently on a non data plan. My 2.5 year old LG lotus Elite which did a geat job is starting to dye.

Yes. Get the phone online or by calling. The stores will make you change plans and activate it which is bad.

never actually tried that. I imaging if you can get it and then call sprint to clear the esn then it should be fine.

I don't see amazon offering the nicer phones at a low price. I only see them offering the low end phones with a contract. The fancy phones all seem to be full price.

Once you select Sprint and click on the phone it gives you the option to choose an upgrade with a lower price.
For the galaxy S3 sprint is giving me $99 Amazon is giving me $49
HTC One Sprint- $199 Amazon- $99
Note 2 Sprint- $299 Amazon $149
