im not sure how you plan on putting whatsapp on a rumor (although i have heard that you can get them sent as texts).

I've been searching for such info for a while nothing comes in my Google searches...

I'm looking for a basic talk and text phone that would be able to get email, I don't want a touchscreen smartphone.
is there any prepaid service with a cheap plan that works with blackberry?
so far all I found was simple mobile 25$ plan but has no data so email won't work

That's the type of information I'm looking for.
Thank you.

If you need WhatsApp then go with Android. Centro is much more complicated then Android.

Maybe for whatsapp but in terms of cofunsing the replenish can be found (especially for someone older) like other smartphones, just with limited capabilities.

Please "modify" your post.  Especially the 2 words I bolded.  I don't understand what you're saying.

Sorry it was a bit rushed. What i meant was this; Its true that the replenish might be easier to use for whatsapp than the centro however, if i understand correctly, that reason the op wanted an non-smartphone was because smartphones are more confusing and complicated for older people, and i have tried the replenish before and it would seem that it can be equally confusing for someone as much as a regular smartphone. I do not feel that its limited capabilities (compared to regular smartphones) bring with it the simpleness of a non-smartphone.

Centro can't have WhatsApp.

OP is coming from a Blackberry, which isn't a basic phone either.

Replenish, is just an example of an Android phone with a qwerty keypad.

Centro can't have WhatsApp.
That might be, i have never used one before it just seemed from the the rest of the discussion that it could be done.

True, but they are still less confusing than a standard smartphone.

Yes and no, all i was coming to say is that besides for the replenish having a qwerty it also runs on Android 2.3 a slower, bulkier and clunkier software than current, for example the LG Mach which also has a qwerty runs on 4.1 which is from the newer versions, therefore one might think that since the software isn't as fast, seamless, and all the other thing which someone older may find confusing it would be a could pick, i don't agree and i still wouldnt get it for someone who has difficulty using smartphones.

My father's Blackberry Curve seems to have charged it's last.
What should I get him to replace it?
...........

I brought him a replacement battery, and the phone started up!  So I have a brief reprieve, but some of his control buttons are breaking, and the charging port seems slightly damaged, so I'm going to need to replace it anyway.

I talked to him about what he needs his phone to do, and I think either the Rumor for the slide out keyboard - and I'll set him up with Whatsapp Web.  OR I'll get him another Blackberry Curve - I saw a new (not used) one on ebay for $35.  Although the keys are a bit small for him to easily text.

Thanks, all for your help.  And for being my sounding board while I think it out.

For WhatsApp Web, you need have a smart phone with a data connection, running the app. Or you could use Telegram.

I can set up whatsapp web when he has his Blackberry.  If he then changes to a Rumor, that can't run whatsapp, will he be able to keep it on the computer?

I don't know about long term, but they don't ask you for validation every time you use WhatsApp web. But could be once a months or so they do ask for validation.

Am I allowed to ask about AT&T on this thread, or is that against the rules? I couldn't find a better thread...

The phone with the app needs to be connected to the internet (could be on WiFi) and have the app running IME. So if the blackberry won't have the app open...

-1 that's only if there is a connection, so the blackberry will need to have the app running...
