I think you're very right.
As of right now I have a smartphone with a filter so it's not the filth I'm trying to get rid of.
I'm trying to get off of smartphones altogether. I feel like I don't need it and my life will be so much richer without it. On the other hand I still do need for my car basics like a proper gps music and a few other apps.
So I was thinking of using my old galaxy as this phone and leaving it in my car (while praying it doesn't get stolen) and have the Alcatel go flip 3 as my main phone. It still technically has a browser WhatsApp youtube Gmail... It's just not very convenient to use them.

Seems like a glorified airplane mode (not exactly but point is I can turn it off when I want)

I'm trying to do something that takes away the 'yechoiles' not so much worried about people wasting my time as much as me wasting my own time.

I take it you're using T-Mobile that you went with the flip 3?

 Very impressive. Big move.
I know the title is waze or GPS, but which ever you're using is definitely taking you in the right direction..  ;)

And at work if you need you use a computer. Vs carrying a smartphone all day in your pocket.

I know someone who did the car idea that you mentioned earlier, it eventually made its way into the house, albeit not as a personal cell phone, but it only had waze and email. It is a good idea in theory

Not sure what you mean when you say it still has browser etc. just not convenient, the flip phone or the smartphone?

So my plan is the "car phone" will have maps, some sort of music app, calling/text and two other  apps I would need in my car.

The "dumb phone" will have WhatsApp, gmail, a browser and YouTube. But it doesn't have a full keyboard nor does it have touchscreen and it's a small screen so will be very annoying to use and hopefully won't be used for much except a quick search etc.

I have no problem with it coming in the house. There isn't really much for me to do on it - I don't need waze to get to the kitchen:)

Why will you want to call or text from the phone  that is only in the car? What happens when someone returns your call or text? I don't even know the phone number of my smartphone.

Probably he thinks that he will have it as part of the plan. I have heard of being able to split the data from the call/text on a single plan. Not easy to convince a rep to do, but possible.

Edit: could be that wouldnt work anymore if you want to have lte service for talk and text

I need the calling for Hatzolah. I need to be able to (through their app) be in touch with patients and other members. Otherwise I would just use my dumb phone for all calls.

Who said Samsung? iphones like the iphone SE (2022) are great for that type of thing, and may even be able to be blocked without a costly monthly filter,(ask TAG)
Otherwise, here are a few cheap android phones the internet recommends:

Google Pixel 6A ($349)
Samsung Galaxy A14 5G (around $200)
OnePlus Nord N20 5G ($150)
Motorola Moto G 5G ($199)
Moto E ($159)

Specifically with Samsung he might have the option of Gentech Safe (https://www.gentechsolution.com/install-gentech-safe/) which I think is also a one-time setup fee only.

Thanks, are these prices for new ones or second hand ?
I asked about samsung, since the Waze devices they sell are Samsung's, I thought they must be better, ill check with them.
