Traveling to the EU now from the US
« on: July 30, 2020, 11:34:22 AM »
Wondering if anyone had any insight on this.  Have an EU passport, planning on flying from the US-AMS-MLA.  MLA states that you can come from any EU country as long as you've been there for 14 days.  Can they tell how long I've been in the EU if it's not an official connecting flight?

Will be doing a rapid test the morning of the flight and continuing to ZAG instead if MLA doesn't work.

MLA has access to your entry information from AMS since they are both Schengen members AFAIK

Gotcha.  But what if we "transit" AMS on our American passports but instead of hopping on the connection to ZAG we grab flights to MLA.  Will they still be able to tell that we were recently in the US?

I just did this a few weeks ago. JFK-CDG-WAW. Poland doesn’t let anyone fly in from outside the EU but no restrictions within Schengen.

Short answer: No issues whatsoever.

Long answer: I knew that I wouldn’t have any issue from the authorities as my second flight was intra Schengen and there are no border controls within Schengen but I was afraid that the airline would make problems... i flew delta from JFK and the only thing they cared was to make sure that I and my family were allowed to enter Europe (they didn’t have à European passport so I brought a proof of our marriage). When I entered France the officer only wanted to see a proof of mariage. For the second flight there was no passport control at all as predicted.

(This also apply to intra Schengen flights let’s say you’re in Sweden and want to go to Lithuania, you can fly in to Poland and drive to Lithuania and no one will ask you anything at the border but you wouldn’t be allowed to fly. As far as I know this is 100% legal as well)

This is perfect, thanks!  Exactly what I was hoping.  I just read on Malta's site that they're only allowing intra-Schengen passengers in if you've been in the region for 14 days.  Worst case we'll just hop on flights somewhere else in the EU or to TUN.

Thanks again!

Not in the EU, but Croatia is with either a negative test from within 48 hours prior to arrival or 14 day quarantine.

From the US or the EU?

EU (France specifically).

Anyway I don't think that there are flights from the US to Djerba even during normal times
