iphone charging port
« on: August 10, 2020, 09:18:48 PM »
I dropped my iPhone 6 in water. I wiped it, but the earpiece wasn't giving sound. The headphones and speakerphone both worked.
I put it in rice for a few hours and the earpiece sound was back.
The next time I tried charging it, the charging cable wouldn't snap all the way in.
I thought it was lint in the charging port, so I used a wireless charger. It didn't work; my phone is not charging.
I'm now assuming the charging port corroded.
Will changing the port solve the problem or is the phone a gonner?

If wireless charging doesn't work why would changing the port help?

I'd definitely suggest putting in rice for longer asap. A few hours isn't nearly enough. I've seen things get better after a couple days in rice or crystal kitty litter.

I was amazed by the liquid sensor of the fire tablet, it detects water and tells you to shake the water out till the liquid icon goes away and then it's safe to charge

iPhone 6 doesn’t have wireless charging..
I did a quick Google search "Does iPhone 6 have wireless charging?" and saw YES.  Now I went back to read the answers and see that the YES is really no.
So thank you, I'll concentrate on my charging port.

Its been days since it was dropped in the water, will rice still help?

I don't know, but I'd guess it's worth a try.

If the cables doesn't fully go in maybe it's just some dirt (or whole) rice stuck in there?... Try cleaning it out with a needle.

Thank you!  I assumed it was lint but it didn't come out with a vacuum or compressed air.
So then I worried the charging port was corroded but it didn't charge wirelessly.
But I used a needle (which I strangely have with me on vacation) and a grain of rice popped out!
My charger slides in all the way and is working perfectly!
My phone turned on and is buzzing away with almost a week's worth of notifications.  LOL

Funny story- my father's work iPhone stopped charging, so he took it to IT and they said "Ya that's a  common problem with iPhones. Here's a new one." My brother took the old one and looked online to see if he could fix it, cleaned out the charging port and of course it started charging. I don't think anyone lost their job over this, but my father did not let the IT dept get away with it.

It might pay to clean your port with some alcohol (or ideally a proper contact cleaner) to prevent future corrosion.
