Roughly how many people will be on it at once? Area of coverage needed? What speed internet do you have?
My Tapatalk notifications don't always work.

No more than 2 normally but if this school year becomes abnormal then up to 4 at a time. The house is probably 2000sq ft or so. We'll have 200Mbps

St 2000sq ft location of router/ap is crucial. Depending on layout you might want to go Mesh. I have a Ubiquity access point which reaches further than any router I've seen.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

If you go mesh I can't say enough about Orbi. Might be overkill in your situation. I am at 30 connections currently. I even setup a guest network for my neighbor so he doesn't need to pay for internet.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

So we really don't take the computers out of the living room area. Guess we need to see where the modem is going to begin with.

Impressive. What's more impressive is how does one get a negative HT? :)

My mother always told me I was special.  ;)
Whatever you decide look into buying your own modem. You will recoup the cost in less than a year. One draw back is if you have an issues the first thing they blame is the modem since it is not theirs.

Already bought a modem and when we had Optimum they magically decided that they wouldn't let us use it anymore but the neglected to tell us and just shut off the internet one day.

And just as your mother told you that you were special just remember, you're unique...just like everyone else  ;D

I have my main orbi downstairs and my other orbi upstairs. It is a 5 level split house. This is from the bedroom upstairs on level 5.  Before anyone asks, yes I am in bed. All MS from here.  :)

Downstairs speed at the main is around 350-375. This is my upstairs speed:

What's a good mesh system for a 3 story house. Want to connect to existing non mesh router which is on the first floor. Want to get internet up to the 3rd floor (which is spotty at best from the 1st floor router rn).
Very slow internet to begin with so no need for a high speed one.
I'm not who you think I am.

Possibly better to use an extension, there's no cheap mesh system that I'm aware of.

But since there is a connection when I walk between floors it'll stay connected to the weak connection and I'll have to switch wifi manually everytime.

Depends how much you want to spend but orbi has all different systems. This would replace your non-mesh router.

Orbi switches automatically. If you are going to be walking around you should look into a mesh system.

Are there any that connect to a regular router? Dealing with non tech oriented people who won't want to switch their router since all their stuff is connected already.

It will but AFAIK it would be the same setup as replacing the router. Is there a separate modem and router or combined? You just connect the ethernet wire to the main Orbi.

If you don't connect them to the new system then it's useless..
What you can do is make the ssid and password the same as before, that way everything should connect to the new system seamlessly.

Eero pro plus two Eero beacons have upped wifi coverage in our place tremendously.

Ok, I cheaped out )though this IS an Amazon's Choice w/ an excellent 4.2 tar rating) and got this for now. Just tell me now how awful it is, lol.

At the end of the day we mostly use the computers in the LR and that's where the modem is anyway.
