When do charges post to cc

What's the average amount of time it takes a purchase to post to your cc? Does it depend on the cc company or the merchant? I need a chase purchase to post by Wednesday midnight and was wondering if a purchase sometime tom would clear by then.

The purchase more specifically would be Amex gift cards.

Average?

Each charge takes a different amount of time depending (definitely) on the merchant, and (probably) on the creditor as well.

Run it asap and YMMV.

Botch! I put the charge through for Amex gc on the 28th two days ago and didn't post yet. Need it to post by midnight. Can I ask Amex to charge it now and explain I want to make all my holiday spendings before next cycle etc or is it a lost cause?

It definitely is based on the merchant because other charges I made at same time posted yesterday. What's weird is that the gc shipped yesterday and the charge is only pending.
