COVID-19 Reinfection
« Reply #61 on: August 26, 2020, 03:38:24 PM »
Heard second hand from Dr. Naor Bar-Zeev that someone getting reinfected with little or no symptoms is normal with these type of viruses. "Immunity isn't a force field", rather the body just knows how to deal with the virus in an efficient manner.

I'm not sure how that affects contagiousness.

Reinfection tracker:

https://bnonews.com/index.php/2020/08/covid-19-reinfection-tracker/
If there are only 8 documented cases then it would seem that though possible it is extremely rare.

It does seem that it is rare now and hopefully it will stay that way, but this matches the pattern of other coronaviruses from which the immunity would begin wearing off right around now for the earliest of the cases. In addition to that, to count scientifically they must have actually had a positive test. Where things go from here remains to be seen. Like all else with this virus we should hope for the best but keep our eyes open.

True, however the fact that we are not hearing about mass reinfections in Italy will hopefully buy USA enough time till there is a vaccine.

IIRC, when one of the NY frum doctors put out a post about rapidly dropping antibodies, concern was disregarded because it is SOP for antibodies to fall to undetectable levels soon after infection, but that immunity continued for 'x' amount of time depending on the disease. I think it was explained in a Biobook special. My point is that based on that explanation, most people would fail an antibodies test within a few months of the initial infection, making taking a test every few weeks somewhat futile.

ETA: On this topic, does anyone have any experience taking an antibodies test 4 or 5 months after infection?

Hi- i was infected in mid march. took first antibodies test in late april (Mayo) numbers were super high. took another in late july (wanted to still give plasma) numbers dropped 15% but still plenty to give plasma.

Got Covid in March, still had and donated antibodies in July.
Same for my brother.
I'm not who you think I am.

I just heard of someone in Lakewood who had antibodies and now tested positive. I haven’t confirmed it.

There are reports of it being more severe the second time around.

I wonder what reinfection will mean RE vaccines. I’m afraid there’s a possibility we’ll have to maintain SD & ventilate spaces for the rest of our lives

Why should it be different than the flu vaccine, which is given every year?

I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion so fast anyway, but even if vaccination doesn’t last long or isn’t that effective, so what? With widespread accurate rapid testing, some level of vaccination/immunity, and constantly improving medical care, we will be able to live a great life life while maintaining certain precautions we hadn’t prior to 2020.

Why is this such a disaster?

I only raised it as a far flung possibility. A very small percentage of the population regularly get flu shots. If consecutive reinfections are indeed progressively worse clinically, the risk will increase even with lower prevalence.
