Confirmed reinfection in Lakewood patient who previously had antibodies and had the second vaccine dose some time ago. Sequenced as the British variant. It was an incidental finding that appears to have been asymptomatic and unrelated to pain the patient was experiencing.

Paint me skeptical.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Everyone was fairly skeptical when the rapid showed positive but the sequencing just came back.

Hospitalized. Degenerative back pain.
Didn't most people have back pain when they had Covid? DW and myself both did when we had it 6 months ago.

B.1.117 is becoming the dominant strain in the US, no big news here.

The news is the antibodies from last year and the reinfection after full vaccination that may be a function of the virulence of the British strain.

Or that the vaccine protects against illness, but not infection. Which vaccine did they get?

The big news would be if could somehow know if (or to what extent) such asymptomatic patients are contagious. The indication that a rapid came back positive implies higher viral loads.

Most likely Moderna then.

Curious if they'll be able to document if the infection (rather than the illness) affects the body in any way.

THis seems like very bad news to me. If 7 months after infection the immunity rate is still below what is needed for herd immunity among those who actually have antibodies then how can antibodies be used to measure immunity?

Where does it say that? It shows a 80%+ reduction in cases even after 7 months.

The study doesn’t cover contagion of reinfections, which is a factor in herd immunity.

At the end of the day if infections are cut by 90% due to seropositivity (whether from infection or vaccination) then R will drop significantly.
