What a genuinely sad sentiment.
And a bit presumptuous to assume you are a frum jew.

Absolutely not.
You just joined ( welcome to DDF.) And there is nothing in this thread to indicate one way or another.

Any chance they will postpone the last two (or three) days of the RNC because of Hurricane Laura?

Some really moving speeches tonight. Ann Dorn, widow of officer David Dorn, and the Muellers, whose daughter was killed by ISIS.

Yup. I watched the Muellers.  So sad that parents can feel so helpless not being able to save their child11 :-[1

What values was it a "love letter" to?

Relatedly, how do you square "Make America Great Again" with "loving America?" Because 4 years ago, America was America. Yet the Republican party wanted to "make it great again," necessarily implying it wasn't great at the time. So did Democrats love America 4 years ago, and Republicans didn't? And if "loving America" is a reason to vote a certain way, why didn't you vote Democrat in 2016?

this is true if the slogan was make america great. but its make america great "again" that implies the history and the future potential of it happening again

I don't think the presence of "again" contradicts anything I said. At the very least you're conceding that, within "MAGA," the greatness of America is something that changes with time.

So what matters doesn't seem to be whether a party "loves" America or not, because sometimes they love it and sometimes they don't. What matters would seem to be the particular aspects of America that the party loves.

"Make America Great Again" has always been pretty vague about the precise time in our history that it hearkens back to. Trump promises a return to greatness without directly telling us when that period of greatness was. This lets people fill in the blanks, and the vagueness really lends itself to idealizing a time when power was concentrated in "white America." So when you read about a "love letter" to America in times like these, you really gotta wonder what values are being praised.

Did you even read the tweet? Do you understand what he feels the difference between the sides are? It doesn't seem like it because your response has nothing to do with what he wrote.

Yes I am sure people who view life through racial glasses felt it lends itself to this. It fits in with their thinking and confirmation bias. Seems like you are one of those people.

I did read it! And I do understand! I'm sorry you don't see the relevance of my response  :-\

Loving America is, on its own, a pretty meaningless notion. Because America contains tons of contradicting ideas from tons of different people.

Saying America "is great" or saying America "was great" isn't inherently admirable because their meaning depends entirely on which American ideas you'd like to embrace.
