He wants to do it himself, there is a chance that it's just the enclosure.
@Square do you think it's worth buying a cable just to diagnose? (Chances are it won't fix anything)
Hi,firstly thanx for your help till here,  i didnt get around to testing my hard drive till now.
i bought the sabrent sata drive, first time i plugged in the hard drive to test it, it showed up properly and worked for the few minutes i tried it, but now its not showing up anymore.
I tried through disk management and it shows up there but says disk not intialized,
Whats the next step should i intialize it or is that like formatting which will wipe the data ?

Do you need any data on the drive?

Plug in the hard drive and listen very carefully how it sounds, and describe it here, or maybe you can record it and attach it.

What is the exact model of the drive?

Go to administrative tools > computer management > disk management (dunno what the equivalent in dumbed down Metro settings is called) and see if you can see the disk. Itís possible that all you need to do is assign a different drive letter and itíll work.

This drive doesn't make a faint sound when starting.

Put your ear to it before plugging it in, and listen to start sequence.
