Bump
1. Brilliant doing this on a Sunday. Bought them a full day of positive press.
2. They want more people to buy up from basic. This will help.
3. Helps them take away a Southwest competitive advantage.

I fully agree on 1 and 3, but on #2 something else needs to be done to make that easier when using OTAs. Often OTAs will just display the lowest available fare bucket for the searched cabin, and trying to get a different fare bucket is daunting.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Airlines don't want you using OTAs anyway. But Chase, Priceline, and Orbitz all make it pretty simply to buy up, so which are you referring to?

It's not like I'm buying every other day on an OTA. I recall last time I was looking to book something it was simple for certain airlines on the OTA but not others. I think we might have used Expedia. Would be nice if one could specify a specific fare bucket.

Fare bucket is nearly impossible, but most have basic buyups now.

As a card holder, I always bought basic. I'm not willing to pay the premium usually just for the seat assignment, which I am almost always able to work out anyway (especially when flying with kids). With this now, iwouks absolutely be more open to paying the premium.
