Best Credit Card for teens
« on: September 07, 2020, 12:46:34 AM »
Not sure if there is already a thread or wiki for this.

I'm looking for a credit card for my teen that allows me to create small credit limits ($50 or $100) and change these limits regularly, depending on how my child behaves financially.

Can anyone recommend the best credit card for this. Thanks.

Would also want the credit card to:
~ Be on my name utilizing my credit
~ Preferably have no annual fee
~ Be a credit card, not a debit card
~ Give me full access to all details on my teen's purchases
~ Block certain vendors or categories (like technology)

PS. I am doing this to train and teach my teens how to behave financially and I fully expect those who don't have teens to disagree with this method of parenting.

I don't believe such a thing exists.
Otherwise Chase Freedom Unlimited is the easiest guess. Although any no AF card will probably fit your needs

Chase business cards IIRC can have a set credit limit for AU.
You can block certain merchants but not a specific category.

add them as an AU to your card. On Amex you can see the transactions separately and you can set limits too. However, it's not accepted everywhere especially for smaller transactions. You can also set email alerts whenever there is a transaction on the card. Review their spending with them when you get your statement.
AFAIK Amex gives you the most control over AUs but again it's not the best cards for small charges.
I had my teens added to a bunch of my cards as soon as it was possible for building credit history.

With Chase and amex you can block merchants but not categories I'm also not sure if you can block a merchant if they never charged your card in the past. Anyone can advise?

If an employee buys something on his company credit card that he was clearly not allowed to buy per company rules, and he refuses to pay back (and no longer works at the company, can the company dispute the charge?

No!

Primary account holder is the informal term sometimes used to refer to the initial or main user of a credit card account. Like any account holder, the primary is responsible for the debt, for paying account balances and can make changes to the account. Any secondary users listed on the account are considered authorized users and would not be responsible for paying account balances.

At what age can you add them?
