If you don't care why would you comment?

Better than the return route. Definitely possible they'd clawback not only the 500, but the 30k.

It's definitely not the norm, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Why risk it? Especially if there are ways with less risk?

I don't think it happens often enough for me to consider it a risk/YMMV, I would do it לכתחילה.

You would? The return route?

(Not to be picky... but even a .0001% chance is a risk. Perhaps not one you're concerned about, but it's a risk nonetheless. If there were ways to mitigate even that risk, I'd just as soon follow that route. Diff strokes, I guess.)

especially if the route also meant keeping the 500 spend points

Point? To each their own. I'd do the return route any time. Not afraid of  a .0001% risk for such things.

Yes, especially if you have 3+ months and you do the spend right when you get the card. If they'll claw it back I'd imagine it would be after the second statement (when the credit posts) and you can do the spend again and get the bonus with the 3rd statement.

Oh, and to be clear I'm specifically referring to the signup bonuses. IME the spend bonuses (nearly) always get debited/clawed back.

-1 if you have to break your head to figure out how to spend the money, which the OP obviously has a problem doing.

Just an update in case anyone's interested. My parents are old school and they don't want their bank account info given out (doesn't make sense...I know...). They agreed to spend $500 from my card instead so it's all good :)

All I want is one free round trip domestic ticket. This forum is filled with people getting that plus way more but I can't seem to manage :(
UR points are only good for 2 airlines continental or british airways ea of those airlines though are partners with the list i posted meaning if you find a milage award ticket on either co or ba great otherwise if you find the tkt u need on one of their milage partners u can swich points into co/ba and have them book the award tkt with their partner
once you push your points into either co or ba u can return your purchases and the miles are yours but if points are in Ur i suppose chase can deduct it from your acct
