Comment was only intended to explain the problems with the bizarre claim above, which used somebody's failure to wear a helmet as some sort of evidence that wearing a mask in those situations is wrong/hypocritical. The two types of risk are apples and oranges in terms of (i) who is being placed at risk - you or others (ii) degree of risk and (iii) potential ripple effects of that risk. Even if the risk of transmitting in this situation is minuscule, it's not hypocritical (some may reasonably even say it's admirable) to take precautions that serve to eliminate even a small risk to others that has a ripple effect. Definitely stupid not to wear a helmet though.  .

Wow. Talk about putting words and meaning into someone else's mouth/comment.

The point implied (and somewhat clarified in my comment in response to @moko's comment) was that the mask wearing has absolutely nothing to do with safety or risk aversion for oneself or others. It is pure symbolism and a statement, totally devoid of any logical substance.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

yup, that's exactly what I thought you were implying, and it's illogical for the reasons I explained.

Here's what I don't understand When everything started going crazy there were a lot of decisions that were made.

So they started making all these hospitals and all that and they tell people to stay home and everything and now supposedly because they didn't use all these hospitals and because when people didn't die then all this whole stay-at-home order and all those whole hospitals were overreacting..

This is called cognitive dissonance.

I'm sorry that you people fail to see the bigger picture, it's why this world is in the shits.

And then I don't understand the people who shrugged everything off, overloaded the hospitals and blamed them.

Now I'm supposed to support widows and orphan's

I got a fundraiser request from chesed shel emes who has the bury so many bodies and all that

Hatzala used up their supplies and had a major fundraiser

But the sages of chelm assure us that everything is ok.

nobody here is calling for blanket shutdowns oh we are saying is be responsible.

But a mask makes you uncomfortable boohoo..

How so? If there is little risk from passing someone outdoors then how is it anything but symbolism?
Just because things turned out a certain way doesn't mean you were right.

I think you're being overly generous when you're saying little risk. We're not talking about a pedestrian, we're talking about a cyclist. If a cyclist presents a risk of infecting others with COVID-19 beyond any other environmental risks that exist, then anything short of a Wuhan type lockdown with welded doors is insufficient.

I don't think even that would be sufficient.

I don't think they realize it, but those who wear masks just for symbolism when there is no reason to wear a mask give the impression that people pushing masks are just crazy.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I will take the description of generous as a compliment :)

When Corona exploded between Purim and pesach, everybody said we didn't see it coming.

Now that the snowball effect is known, how can the stupidity still exist? No wonder @ExGingi  hates collive, just read the garbage in the comments ;

"Virus mutated,  it's not so bad"

"Take vitamin c, d, zinc, ink blink!! It's fine!!"

Maybe people are watching and see it's not coming.

I never said I hate anyone. They are just banned (for a multitude of reasons).

As far as comments are concerned, IINM most Jewish news sites with a shred of dignity just removed the ability to comment.

I'm a cyclist. (non - spandex division). When you ride in the city, you are constantly stopping at red lights and such. So there is time then to be near people for a minute or so breathing heavily.

I have no idea what the likelihood of it spreading that way, though like most others I just line up single file at lights and keep my distance from people.

Based on what observations?

I think that the whole bicycle thing takes away from the bigger picture..

Being indoors for extended lengths of time.

Yeah one coffee shop had 50% capacity and social distancing indoors and You have to wear a mask whenever you were not sitting at your spot which I found was completely stupid.

I basically only eat outdoors SD or in my car.

I can see why the mikvah is an issue, It's a place where people historically have been talking in

I know several different ppl who have had very close family members who were niftar from corona (Youngish no pre existing health conditions) and they are the most carefree   about corona no social distancing, masks etc (They haven't had it either bh)
