Not just pharmacies, but all the clinics and hospitals here: https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/locations
As opposed to the locations here: https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/

I’m not seeing that distinction in any of the locations in the first link. Please post evidence thereof at a non-pharmacy.

When I called a few weeks ago it wasn’t elective, even if you were eligible the doctor there has to initiate contact, no waiting list and they can’t ask the doctors.

I guess we can now say Ein Mevi'in ra'aya mExGingi.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Definitely. Elderly people who didn't yet have Covid and asked for it were refused at his office while people who already had Covid and didn't ask were offered it. I'm no scientist, but that seems ... questionable.

I stand corrected. I guess the only places I was able to search for available appointments were pharmacies? Whenever I searched the former non-seniors were not eligible.

TBH. I don't find that office to be very forward-thinking as far as business is concerned. And there are larger families than mine. But as I said, I am a VIP :P.

More seriously, it was probably who I spoke to (I do have a relationship of several decades, and spoke to someone who knows that) and what I said (which is mostly things out of my control, which I don't wish on anyone) that got me the appointment.

My kids' school is having an outbreak. They're staying open business as usual, and asking people with symptomatic illness to stay home. Thankfully it's a small school with all employees under 50 with the average age much lower, not that that makes this in any way okay.

https://anash.org/appointments-available-for-vaccines-in-crown-heights/

Quote
A large number of vaccine appointments for the coming days have opened up at Medgar Evers College site in Crown Heights and at Walgreens Pharmacies in the area.

The appointments opened on Wednesday, after a number of days that there were no availabilities. Some appointments are available as soon as this week. Others are open in the beginning of April.

The mass vaccination site is located in Medgar Evers College at 231 Crown Street in Crown Heights. All New Yorkers age 60 or above, as well public-facing essential workers from governmental and nonprofit entities will be eligible. This includes teachers and in-person instructors.

In addition, any individual with underlying health conditions are eligible to receive a vaccine as well. Among the conditions that make one eligible are a BMI higher than 30 kg/m2, which even applies to people who are slightly overweight from a medical standpoint, but otherwise fit.

Residents who are 60 or older, as well as teachers and selected essential workers, can receive their vaccine at any Walgreens pharmacy as well.

Is J&J also available to the same groups?

FTFY

Yes. I don't believe there's an eligibility distinction between J&J/mRNA, certainly not in NYS/NYC.

meaning, some people (teachers)? only eligible at certain locations. J&J only being distributed at some .ocations?
do those overlap?

NYC vaccine finder tells you which vaccines are being used at which locations, typically only one type per location for logistical reasons. The Javits Center is an exception where the daytime appointments use Pfizer and the overnight appointments use J&J.

As for professions, I was under the impression that NYC pharmacies were only for seniors, but someone mentioned further upthread that certain professions are also eligible, so I'm not sure.

ETA pharmacy eligibility:
Quote
Site only serves those age 60 and older and/or
P-12 school faculty and staff, and childcare workers

So apparently teachers can register anywhere including pharmacies.

seems to be the only one (on that list) using J&J period.
(e.g. someone hoping to reach 'full' immunity 3 weeks sooner, perhaps in time to travel)

do teachers need some kind of documentation?

Not sure it's enforced consistently, but a recent appointment confirmation reads:
Quote
Proof of Occupation:
Depending on your eligibility, proof can include an employee ID card, a letter from an employer or affiliated organization, or a
pay stub. Any person who does not have proof of their occupation or priority status cannot be vaccinated. Executive Order
202.86 imposes monetary penalties for any provider vaccinating an individual who has not certified eligibility or for who the
provider otherwise has knowledge that the individual is not a member of a priority group. Vaccination eligibility must be based
on current employment status.

1. Don't know that they care. You have the letter.  Box checked.
2. They don't know that you have no in-person contact for 1-on-1's, field trips, or things like that.

Correct, though maybe they can make you something on a letterhead that shows a different logo...

Keep in mind that immunity takes time to build up, and the J&J vaccine is only 66% effective 28 days after the 1st dose. Considering that the Pfizer vaccine is >80% effective two weeks after the first dose, it might still be a better option.

Or you teach in an online school, but out of an office facility with other teachers and support staff.

Also, you can self-certify comorbidities such as being slightly overweight or having hypertension.
