Interesting. I find my self getting lost in all the scrolling, and much prefer the easy page number reference which gives it more structure. (Especially when viewing quoted posts)

As long as your reading starting from page 1 and going up the site will keep track.

I've been here over 12 years and haven't been able to make that happen. What am I doing wrong?

Hit the new button next to any thread, it will take you straight to where you left off.

I just 'read' a thread online from post #1 - #29.
I close the browser, reopened, and click new, and it took me to page two or post number 50. This is a three-page thread. So partially correct, but not anywhere near as good

IME it always has been accurate to the post.

if you have a minute to try and replicate my experiment I'd appreciate it.
I'm using chrome on pc. I prefer the experience over mobile, this has always been my challenge.

I see what your saying it jumps like one page ahead. 🤷‍♂️

If I open a thread and read half way through the newest posts and then close it, are the rest of the posts that I didn't finish reading considered "read" on the site? The next time I click the "new" button doesn't it take me to the newest posts after all the posts I opened, even if I didn't read them all?

You can click Mark Unread and you'll be taken to that page next time you click the NEW button

I figured I'd try going back to Tapatalk at least for notifications, my conclusion is:

For notifications of anything other then a PM, post qoute or mentions, it's really annoying especially when reading it online won't make it be read on Tapatalk. But for those select few it isn't bad.
