President Trump gives an update on his Supreme Court pick; says he's narrowed the list and is now considering five women for filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Supreme Court seat.

The announcement is expected at 5pm on Saturday.

Dumb question of the day- why does it have to be a woman nominee aside for PC reasons?

It would look really bad if all three of his nominees were men. Until now, he was able to say that he was replacing a man with a man. Now, he would be replacing a woman with a man...

ACB was always on the top of his list.

Correct, but that's for PC purposes. Choose a women if she's the most qualified, but the narrowed down list should contain the top qualified men and women unless you're not necessarily looking for the best.

Trump has a list of qualified judges that is publicly available. He is choosing from that list.

It will be hard for Dems to accuse her of abusing anyone...

GOP cannot remove her as speaker unless they get enough defections from the democratic party to help them. As much as some Dems might opose her, there's no way they would topple the house to get rid of her.

I agree. I think Trump will nominate ACB. The only question is, what scandal do you think the Democrats are going to conjure up this time around ? As the usual thomasing won't work.

Correct, the same way she won't be able to remove Trump from office.

To be honest, the Republicans played dirty to block Garland by inventing a rule, and then changing it, everything should be on the table. What goes around comes around.

Same as republicans, it's playing with fire because next time the tables are turned, it will come back around.

She doesn't need to remove him from office. She needs to run out the clock by making the senate spend time in a trial, which they are constitutionally required to hold.

They didn't invent the rule! It's been around for over a century and in 1992 it was dubbed The Biden Rule.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

But then they changed it!

I think the best play here is to expose the senate to covid so they have to quarantine for 14 days and can't vote.

The last thing the DNC wants to do is to remind the American public of their failed impeachment, it would be the greatest gift to Trump's reelection.

What did they change?
In 2016, they almost never brought up the opposite party talking point.

In fact, Lindsay Graham reiterated his pledge not to push through a nominee as late as 2018, after the Kavanaugh hearings, and when Republicans still controlled the senate.

Virtually all of the public statements by Republicans in 2016 mentioned "the American people having a say" as the sole reason for not confirming.

There were also mentions of over 80 years since any election year nominee was confirmed. Any mention of divided government was purely tangential, as they obviously wanted to minimize that reason for obvious electoral reasons.

What does the history show?

Well, nothing in modern history shows anything.

Also, if Republicans wanted their argument to be dependent on a divided government, they should have made that clear then. They skirted it then because it sounds (and is) overly partisan when you say it.
