How do you put out your havdalah candle?
« on: August 08, 2021, 07:06:59 PM »
In our house we make our own self standing havdalah candle, but I know that many people buy similar ones at the store as well.

How do you put it out after havdalah? I still haven’t managed to figure out a good way.

Dip a tissue into wine and smother it (or just pinch it out of you're brave).

I pour a little wine on the top of the candle.

I dip the candle in a bit of wine. But do it horizontally- if you dip it in straight down vertically that'll embed the wicks into the soft wax and then it hardens and makes it difficult to light next week.

It's the dip and pour or bust.

I scrape the wax off after it dries. No, not the best method, but I like that the wax doesn't spill off.

It's the dip and pour or bust.

Self-standing candle.  Hold on to the (wooden) match used to light it.  After havdalah, use the match to gently press the wick down into the small pool of liquid wax at the base of the wick, then as soon as the flame is out, gently prod the wick back upright so it's ready for next week.
