Pulls from TU in NJ, NY , FL , PA

Recon 866 408 4064 (might pull from Experian)

For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

By keeping the card open you'll for sure not get another 40k (CMIIW) but you might get 15k/$750 spend.

By churning you'll for sure not get the 15k but you might get 40k, so?

I will (almost) for sure not get approved for another card from Barclays for a while.

Closed M&M 10 days ago.  Applied today. declined.  HUCA x2. Both said to many new accounts :'(

Hucad recon for the 3rd attempt (M&M) and the lady says " I see two of my colleagues have already reconned, I will not be able to recon a third time."

That means you'll have no success with recon. But if you go for instant approval (close all your card) why should you not get approved?

When you get instant approval, what info does the computer use to make a decision? Can it see inquiries, new accounts, etc? Or just the FICO?  Anyone know?

It gets averything in your credit report from the agency(ies) it used (except the soft pulls) + all the information that they collected about you themselvs.
If they want FICO, they can get it, but some companies use other scores. (But all scores are based on the info in your report)
The only question is: what are they looking for? Different companies put their focus on different factors. No one will have an exact answer to that.

You know for a fact that their computer algorithm can interpret the whole report?

No. But I'm sure they do. No question about it.
The only question is what's important to them. (Less pulls, less total credit, etc.)

If so, should be roughly the same as what's important to recon reps, in which case someone repeatedly turned down by recon will likely not fare any better closing all his cards and hoping for an instant approval.

Not at all. It's a lot harder to train a computer than a rep.
Also, its possible that the computer doesn't look at how many account you've opened in the past year, but rather at the AAoA. Which could still be good.
But the first thing any competent rep will do, is look at exactly that. That's just one example.

Have people been having luck getting the AF waived or downgrading after getting the points?

Yes. Many of us have had success with that. Just ask.

Got them to give $89 AF credit on my first try.
Asked for a supervisor right away and that was it.

ME: Is there a possibility of waiving the AF, many other credit cards waive the first year.
CSR: Let me see what I can do (clickity clack..) I can waive it for this first year but next year you will have to pay it.
ME: Thank you.

Ye, took me 2.5 months to get my act together and actually call.
Well worth it!

So you hadn't paid the fee already in that time?
