For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

I asked for a different card but they did not want to. I will try and report back.

By the way my BIL downgraded to the no fee us air card and got instant approval again
DROPR.
With an instant approval he would've likely gotten approved had he not downgraded as well

No fee seems to be good enough.
I didn't read the whole thread, but I don't remember anyone having a problem.
Here you go
Has anybody who downgraded their card to the no annual fee card have been successful in being matched to the 50k offer ? Called yesterday they opened case today i got phone call that I'm not eligible for extra 10k because I downgraded card
Different product is always safer.

Jay s is saying something different. He wanted to get 10k points matched on a downgraded card .
I am talking about applying for a new card.

You're right on that one, was doing a quick search, here's another one
Recon is telling me that you can not have more than one USAir card opened at any given time. Is this true? I should have cancelled the other one before applying for a second card!
ETA:
And another one
Has anyone who has the lower US card heard from recon "you have this card already"?
To your last question: Yes, they told me that and would not approve - they couldn't even see that it was the downgraded version.
Not saying it's not possible, but the process is definitely smoother with a different product.

Congratulations, you've earned Dividend Miles Select benefits*

Thanks for being a US Airways MasterCard® cardholder. Just for using your card, we're converting 10,000 of your miles into Preferred-qualifying miles. These miles count toward your Dividend Miles Preferred status in the upcoming program year.1

Plus, for the next 12 months, we'll waive the award processing fee when you redeem your miles for award travel. And remember, with Dividend Miles Select benefits, award travel starts at just 20,000 miles – 5,000 fewer miles than for non-cardholders.

With 10k from this card and 10k from citi executive I only need another 5k for Aa gold

You knew about it in advance?
Yes.

*Terms & conditions:
1When a cardmember spends $25,000 or more in new net purchases (which are not later credited back or rescinded; 'purchase requirement') by December 31 of each calendar year, we'll convert a total of 10,000 miles into Preferred-qualifying miles 4 - 8 weeks after the purchase requirement has been met. You can only qualify for a maximum of 10,000 Preferred-qualifying miles per year through this credit card program.

2Beginning 10 business days after the purchase requirement has been met and for 12 months thereafter, the US Airways award processing fee will be waived provided the customer meets the criteria above. The award processing fee waiver applies only to the processing fees listed below and is not a waiver of (i) any government or regulatory agency taxes, fees and surcharges, (ii) or any other US Airways fees including quick ticketing fees, paper ticketing fees, change/redeposit fees and fees for tickets that are not booked online. The award processing fees waived are: $25 per domestic ticket; $35 per Mexico or Caribbean ticket; $50 per Hawaii or international ticket.
