For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

Still very close to 2014. You should not have too many hard pulls within six months and possibly longer with Barclays.

I applied for the card a few weeks ago just a few days before the 50k offer came up. I called to be matched and I was. 10k posted last month. And according to Barclay the other 40k posted on January 12th. However usairways don't have any record of the 40k. What do we do now?

If the fee wasn't paid - yes
If the fee was already paid - no

really?
IME it always posts very soon after the statement closes. e.g. my miles and more card closed on the 15th and the sign up miles already posted. and my usairways card closed on the 12th, bardclay told me they posted on the 12th, and usairways have no record of it. someone PMd me to get barclay and USAir on a conference call. anyone know how to do that. i don't see it discussed UT.

Yes. Really.
No need to bring examples of it posting faster. We know it usually does, but sometime it doesn't.
Wait till a few days after next statement closes. Don't pay too much attention to Barclay reps.  They are relatively incompetent.

How long do I wait from closing it down to reapplying?

YMMV. Some have been successful even within 48 hours. I, OTOH, waited about a month and didn't work. (For now)

And for how long after the card is open do they refund the af?

From what I gather, most reps will issued a refund for up to 60 days from AF posting. Some will only do it up to 30, but HUCA should help.

Ok, so I guess I might as well close the card, its not like it really has any benefits aside from the 50k for signup.
