For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

I would HUCA, if you haven't already downgraded. Your 5k was spent on USA. I don't see why it would hit Arrival +.

Got the Us Air in the mail this week and just activated it. No AF listed. Is it going to just appear once I make my first purchase? And then for my first statement will bill me 1st purchase + AF >> then post miles >> then I huca to get the AF waived?

Is that a) correct b) best course of action?

This was my 2nd. I applied and got it before the cut off date.

You mean canceling being the best way to get my AF back while still getting the points? If so, why?

My first card I got over a year ago and downgraded it maybe 3 weeks ago and then re applied for US AIR and got approved.

Now I just want to know if the AF will automatically show up on statement some time soon. I Assume so. I dont mind HUCA'ing til I get it waived.

It didn't say anywhere that it will expire, it only said that referral bonuses will not be given for approvals after Jan.18
