For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

whats the likelyhood of getting a "dumb" rep? Would it be more worthwhile to cancel. And this might be a rookie question but I thought you should wait 3 months before churning... Does this not apply to barclays?
no clue about your first issue
3 months...this may disappear very soon

I can alway apply for my wife, and I guess I will cancel my card asap and hope that it has three months of life left to it.

AF posted along with my min. spend, but the statement only shows a bonus of my minimum spend and no 50k.  This must be Barclay's way of telling me to pay the AF and the miles will credit next cycle.

Does anyone have experience with Barclays of asking them to move forward a bill close date - right now my statement is supposed to close on 2/23, but I would prefer it to be earlier - if I ask for a change will they push it out the wrong way, to March?

The general consensus is that, the AF must post before you get the bonus.
I was unsuccessful in getting them to change the current statement close date. They will only change the next statement. I don't think anyone else reported success.

My AF posted, it just hasn't been paid. Once I pay it, I would have to wait until next statement close for the miles to post unless Barclays now posts mid-statement (they didn't on my last US card). Then I am just coming up very close to my 60 day refund date, but I guess I will have to play that roulette.

I am trying to figure out if Twitter is a better option, but since my miles haven't posted I am hesitant to ask about getting the AF waived before they post to my US account.

It will probably post a day after it closes, so call immediately then and if they don't waive, cancel.

Anybody know if there is a workaround to US Airways $75 quick ticketing fee (similar to the United workaround)? Can't use Avios...

But do you think the 50k will post if I twitter Barclays first asking them to waive the fee and then I won't have to worry about paying up front either way? Based on the few comments on here, people are successful in getting them to waive the AF via twitter, but there is nothing about whether the 50k had already been deposited into the USDM account yet or not.  I would think not, since deposits only occur after the AF is paid off, but there is no data on here (and I couldn't find any on FT really either).

pay the fee, let them post, and call up to downgrade

Plan on doing that, just trying to see if there is a way to get around paying up front and having to deal with an $89 credit on a card when I could spend that $89 on another card and actually gain something at the same time.

+1
Amex will also make an ACH for 3k or more.
Bofa has made ACH transfers for me even for $50.

I had them change the closing date for the next statement without any issues
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
