For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

DROPR the only thing you have to do is to pay the same amount as the annual fee. the bonus is pending until you make a payment for the same amount of the AF  even if you have the AF removed

I paid the AF, could I downgrade to get it credited?

I have 2 open US Airways CCs with 2 different FFNs. If I combine the FFNs, what happens to the CC that lost its FFN? Will the miles automatically go into the other account when I spend?

Now that I see the 89 fee showing up on my balance, is the best most +EV play to pay it off. Wait til it goes through and then ask for AF to be waived? Or is it to wait to pay it off, wait for miles to post and then call for AF or call them about AF even now before I pay it off?

Goal is to not pay it and get the miles.

(no need to comment if it will work or not. Just looking for the best most profitable way of doing this. )

Latest strategy? Close current US card before opening, or go in guns blazing?

Wait for points to post then downgrade US to different card such as Arrival then apply for second US

I have a US card which is >1 yr old.

So it's better to downgrade as opposed to close?

Don't see why it would be different, unless you end up wanting to transfer CL over to get it opened?

Sometimes, when you downgrade, the recon rep does not see that you have had the card. YMMV.

It's supposed to be from when the AF posted.

I would downgrade. IME If they see you closing too many cards they get upset.

Consensus seems to downgrade. Other than the arrival card (which I'd prefer to apply for and get bonus) which cards are people downgrading to?

I thought i had downgraded a bit before applying, but after getting approved, i noticed that the card still showed as US. Not sure what happened, but i still got the card.
