For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

I actually got 40K, it's my wife that didn't.
Regardless, I'm just putting it out there that Barclay, much more than any other bank, uses this loophole to give out significantly less miles than you think you're going to get.

When you banner page with the size 30 font advertises 40K!!!, and the size 8 fine print says 10k among all the other legalese, that's a bait n switch. It's not illegal in the least, just misleading.

Does the offer state if you don't qualify for the best rate (card) you will receive 10k instead? If it does then based on your credit it is a possibility.

FYI, acc to the app I signed up with a few weeks ago, the fine print said that the lower level card also receives the 40k, and that's the one I was approved for.
I'll let you know if I receive it, but if so, then we can say good-bye to the bait n switch.

Yup, this seems to be the new fine print for the "60k" (in reality 40k at signup) offer:

Barclays US Airways cc - Approved for 2 personal cards

Not sure if its mentioned elsewhere but I recently applied for a Barclays US Airway Card with 40k bonus after first purchase. I wanted to do a 2/3/ browser method if I was going to have the inquiry anyway but could not find any other card that I would want. I ended up applying for the same card using 2 browser method. Got 2 letters in the mail saying I was declined ( High balances on credit report),called reconsideration line, spent a few minutes explaining the balances and was approved for 1 card (didn't mention 2nd app)..called back 2 days later and was approved for 2nd app (same exact card) and bonus confirmed.  2 first purchases will be 80k miles with 1 credit pull.
