For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

First attempt to get AF credited (paid already.) Rep said no.  I said ok,  I want to close.  Transferred me to a specialist who extolled the virtues of the card.  50k, free bag  etc.  I told her I didn't really need those.  I have an AA card.  She persisted, didnt show signs of giving in.  I don't want to close the card as I have referral points coming in, so I didn't call her bluff.  She did give me 5k for 1k.

Supervisor being annoying too saying there are no other options for downgrading this card....why are they being so difficult?  Even said a friend just downgraded to an arrival without issue and they still wouldn't do it.

They keep saying that there is no OFFER to any other card to downgrade to on her account? Did anyone else get that?

They wouldn't downgrade, I got fed up and said I want to cancel.  They wanted my wife back on the phone and they offered to waive the fee for this year.  We took it for now.  Should I try to churn now?  Is it harder when you still have the card? This is her only Barclay card with a 15k limit...think it will get approved?

Yeah, that's what the first guy told me too. I HUCAd, asked to downgrade and the nice supervisor said "I'm really sorry, but we can only offer to downgrade you to the Arrival card." :)

You guys are great, thanks for all the replies.  going to try and reapply today.  i didnt see anything about having to create a new FF account to sign up for another card right?  i had to do that with my chase united.  i should be able to just apply for another usair with the same number and pray that it gets approved :)

Id just leave the FF blank. Once you get the miles Id call US Air and say that you have 2 accounts and would like to merge them. Should not be a problem at all.

After a long conversation the rep finally offered to downgrade my wife's card to an arrival and waived the fee even though the points already posted! I want to do the same for my card but I already have an open arrival card. Any ideas?

Yes but you can try to get it waived after the miles post in your us air account
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Most likely dead. I tried over the weekend and no success. Feel free to try and report back if it works. At least it was a freeroll as they wont be pulling the credit on it.

I just lowered the CL on my two other Barclays to 1.5k and downgraded my current US Airways to a no-fee Barclays (and a 10k bonus for spending 1k).
Ach, didn't work. I waited a day and applied, and first saw the screen that it's under review, but after checking myapplicationstatus.com I see that it was denied.

Think I'll wait till my online account officially shows my downgrade from the US Airways to Arrival
