For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

Just went to a soda machine to do my $1 spend and... 2 sodas came out! That might even be better than getting 40,000 US miles.

I've had two at the same time. Same name and SS. Now I'm on my fourth card in less than 12 months.

30k no annual fee
30k link
Friend applied using this link and was rejected because link is only for USAirways members with preferred status on their mileage account. To be preferred you need 25k in flown miles.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

They applied me for this card [I called and this is what they gave me]. I didn't realize that there was an annual fee.
I don't want the card but once I have it I want the miles. Do you have to pay the fee to get the miles?

Yes. IME even if you manage to get them to waive the AF, you still need to make a payment equal to the AF amount

Data Point: got the lufhtansa 6 months ago with 1500 credit line.
Spent about 7k total, almost maxed out on the third month, score droped from 761 to 670. Next three months had statment close with less then 10% of credit line, score went back up to 755.
Applied today for U.S air card, instent approval of 4k credit line.
My lufhtansa card is still open.

Why is that a "problem"? 89 dollars for 15k miles? Good deal.
Lucky you... my annual bonus is only 10k
