For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

The annual fee has to post and be paid in order to get the sign up bonus.

When does the AF hit? TIA

Called again, got transferred a few times (having to repeat the story each time of course). Finally got a manager who would give me the 10K if I paid the annual fee of $89, which I argued was illogical since it was waived already. She put up a fight because this offer came out in September and I opened my card in May (ya, kinda stretching it a bit on my part) but finally I showed her that I did pay the AF way back when (and since then have been mailed a check for $89 from US ;) ) and then she agreed to give me the 10K! I didn't see it post instantly as dpk reported, but we shall see.

if they mailed you a check for 89$ AF how is your card open? you only get the check after you close account within 60 days?

I didn't close the account. I got them to refund the AF, but they told me to pay it in the meanwhile since my statement was closing and then it'll just be a credit on my next statement. Once the credit posted, I asked them to mail me my credit.

I'm a bit stuck here. I called CS and asked about waiving the fee and they said it's impossible and that I agreed to it already when I signed up (HUCA?). Also, whats this about needing to pay the fee to get the sign-up bonus?

HUCA about the fee.
You need to pay the fee (or a charge greater then 89$) to have the miles post to your U.S airways account. Ounce they do, you can close the card and get it refunded.

Getting bonus points.  Officially the points post after you spend $1 and pay it.  HOWEVER, really they post only after you spend $1 AND pay the AF.  So if you get the AF waived, you will not get the bonus until you pay the equivalent of the AF, which is at least $89.

Can we get this straight: Is there a promo code or isn't there? There seem to be conflicting reports from some of the posters here.

He's saying that paying the AF is an actual requirement. The equivalent wont suffice.

1. Yes you must close previous card. No two cards at the same time.
2. 8 days from closing the previous one. Also it depends what your credit score and history is like based on that you may be approved.

The market is very low for these but brokers might offer you close to a cpp more like 0.85/0.9

Good for you.
How long ago did you open the first one? The second one?
We're you instantly approved or was the app flagged as a double and you had to call in?
If so what excuse did you give for needing two of the same card?
